Buoys and Signs: What Do They Mean for Anglers?

During the World Predator League, participants will often encounter buoys and signs providing important information about the accessibility of certain areas.

"No Access Nature Reserve" Sign: This indicates that the area is not accessible to the public. It may be due to the protection of flora and fauna, prevention of disturbance, or safety reasons. These areas are often protected by the Nature Conservation Act, and violations may result in fines.

Yellow Buoys with Red Blocks: These buoys mark a restricted or protected zone in nature and water areas. In some cases, these are areas where birds are nesting or resting. Disturbance can have serious consequences, such as birds abandoning nests or damage to aquatic plants and fish spawning areas. Entering, fishing, or boating in these areas is prohibited.

Speed Regulations on the Haringvliet, Hollands Diep, and Volkerak

Safety is crucial, both for participants of the World Predator League and for nature. Therefore, specific speed regulations are in place:

Within 300 meters of the shore: The maximum speed is 6 km/h to protect the shores and nature.
Outside the 300-meter zone: Faster speeds are allowed, but only within designated speed zones.
In Harbors and Dock Areas: The maximum speed is 6 km/h to prevent damage and disturbances.
Speed Zones: There are specific areas where higher speeds are allowed. These are clearly marked on maps and with signs along the water.

Specific Speed Regulations for the Three Waters

Haringvliet: The maximum speed for fast motorboats is 20 km/h unless indicated otherwise in specific speed zones. The majority of the Haringvliet has a speed limit of 9 km/h. The speed zone within the World Predator League will be considered 20 km/h.
Volkerak: The maximum speed is also 20 km/h unless indicated otherwise. Speed zones are marked on the interactive speed map.
Hollands Diep: There are limited speed regulations. Near the shores by nature reserves, the maximum speed is 9 km/h. Elsewhere, faster speeds are allowed on the Hollands Diep.

For more information on where you can speed and where not, check out www.varendoejesamen.nl.

Why Are Some Areas Restricted?

Certain parts of the Haringvliet, Hollands Diep, and Volkerak are closed year-round to protect the peace and well-being of birds. Disturbance can lead to weakened animals or birds abandoning their nests. Therefore, access to these protected areas is prohibited under the Nature Conservation Act.

Summary for Participants of the World Predator League
Respecting nature and ensuring everyone's safety on the water is essential for the World Predator League. We count on all participants to follow the rules for the Haringvliet, Hollands Diep, and Volkerak so that we can all enjoy a responsible and sporting tournament together.
